This morning at school they announced over the PA system for all teachers to keep all students in the room and allow no student in the hall. That announcement means there is trouble somewhere in the school. We weren't too concerned about it until we notice outside our classroom window a police standing with his rifle in shooting position. WOW!! Talk about instant heart rate increase!
We calmly closed the blinds and moved the students out of the area with the window into a more secure room. We are fortunate to have multiple rooms in our department. We stayed in lock down for about 45 minutes. Then we receive another announcement telling us all was well and we could carry on with our day. Everyone was wondering what could have been happening and then everyone started telling stories of what had happened.
The truth is that it was reported that a student had arrived at school with a gun. There are no questions asked when this happens. Procedures are put into place. The gun happened to be a gun stock brought in for a class project. What teacher would allow this kind of project....none other than our Art Silva. Wonder how Silva-buddy felt when officers busted into his classroom with guns drawn. Bet it was a moment he'll never forget in his teaching career!!
It made for an interesting morning, but the best thing is that it wasn't a real threat of any kind and all is well. We also found out how well the system works to protect us all.

-K- That's a little scarey! Good ol' Mr. Silva! :)
That's exciting! Part of me is glad that everything is already, but the other part of me thinks that sometimes schools can be a little bit ridiculous. I heart Silva.
